Derek Jones Named Chair of Florida Bankers Association
In a significant leadership change, Derek Jones, the Central Florida Region Executive of Wells Fargo Bank in Orlando, has been appointed as the Chair of the Florida Bankers Association (FBA). Jones takes over from Jose Cueto, President and CEO of Grove Bank & Trust, following the organization’s annual meeting on Friday.
As the new Chair, Jones will be responsible for overseeing various key initiatives, including the selection process for the FBA’s new CEO, Kathy Kraninger, and the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan for 2024-2027. Jones emphasized the importance of engaging the next generation of banking leaders and enhancing the industry’s advocacy efforts.
With a background in overseeing multiple branches across different counties in the Orlando and Tampa Metropolitan areas, Jones brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He highlighted the significance of talent development within Wells Fargo and expressed his commitment to providing employees with the necessary tools and resources for growth.
Kathy Kraninger, FBA President and CEO, praised Jones for his dedication to the banking industry and his focus on making a positive impact on customers and communities. She believes that his leadership will be instrumental in advancing the interests of the banking sector in the state of Florida.
Looking ahead, Jones will be succeeded by Keith Costello, Chairman, President, CEO, and co-founder of Locality Bank, who is set to take over as FBA Chair in 2025-2026. The transition marks a new chapter for the FBA under Jones’ leadership, as the organization continues to navigate the evolving landscape of the banking industry.
